A History of Mexican Tortillas

by KC Kudra

The word “tortillas” originates from the Spanish word “torta,” meaning round cake. Tortillas are very popular in Mexico and also in the United States. Americans like to be imaginative when it comes to preparing their tortillas and combinations such as beans and meat, apple, cinnamon and sugar or peanut butter and jelly are favorites. Flour tortillas are also used to make sandwiches, casseroles and stews, hot dogs and there are plenty more uses too. You can even make homemade tortillas, since the recipe is quite straightforward.

Tortillas have been enjoyed for many centuries, but not with all the fillings that are used these days.

What You Should Know On Italian Specialties Food

by Irene Maseko

When people think of popular Italian food they most likely think of spaghetti, lasagna, or tortellini. However, the popular Italian food in Italy is actually a little different and much more diverse.

When discussing popular Italian food it is essential to talk about the most popular breads and pastries. Breads serve an important role in Italian food. They can be used as appetizers, sides to a meal, and desserts. The most popular breads are flavored with herbs, cheeses, and sun-dried tomatoes. An excellent dessert bread in Italian food is the biscotti which means “twice baked”. This popular dessert is more like a biscuit or cookie and is often flavored with almonds and spices. Fruit can be added to the biscotti and a popular choice is cherries. Biscotti are very versatile in Italian food, being served for breakfast with coffee or as an after dinner treat.

Information on Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese Recipes

by Irene Maseko

How does crock pot cooking really help beat the heat? Simply put, the crock pot in and of itself puts off far less heat when cooking than an oven or stove top. This is the first and possibly the best reason to utilize the crock pot in your summer meal planning. You should also consider the fact that by not heating the house by using your stove top or oven you are also preventing your air conditioning (or other cooling methods) from working overtime in order to compensate for the additional heat that other cooking methods introduce.

Frugal Cooking for Those on a Budget

by Jude Wright

The rising cost of living is becoming a real problem for everyone these days. Especially for people who are on public assistance and older people on a fixed income. That is why frugal cooking is important right now.

One way to help keep food costs down is to buy in bulk. I’m talking about canned goods and packaged foods that have a long shelf life. You don’t want to buy things like fruits and vegetables in bulk because they will likely spoil before you get a chance to use them all. You can also buy foods in bulk that freeze well, such as meats and poultry. Also, watch for bags of frozen vegetables to go on sale. These will keep for quite a while in a good freezer, especially if they are “double” bagged inside another zip-lock bag.
